Just A Youngin From PG County: DJ Turner
I may be biased, but I truly believe Prince George's County is the best county in the country. This area is a melting pot of diverse people, each bringing unique lifestyles and perspectives. It’s a place where dreams are born and beating the odds is the norm.
I met DJ Turner at the University of Maryland, where we were teammates on the football team. Despite our different backgrounds, our shared passion for football and our love for Prince George's County united us. I attended Northwestern High School, a local public school in Hyattsville, Maryland, and began playing football seriously in 9th grade. DJ, on the other hand, has been playing football since he could walk and attended the private powerhouse DeMatha Catholic High School, known for producing top-tier talent from DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
DJ Turner is one of the hardest workers I know. Every rep in college, he competed fiercely to be the fastest and strongest player on the field, a quality I deeply admired. Though he wasn’t drafted, DJ signed as a free agent and carried that relentless mindset into his meaningful role for himself, embodying the resilient spirit of where he comes from.
Hosting a football camp for the younger generation is almost a rite of passage for athletes from our area who reach their dreams. For DJ Turner, organizing his own football camp and bringing the community together has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of his career. His goal is to inspire kids to dream big and embrace the mindset that statistics are meant to be broken.
Prince George's County isn't just a place on the map; it's a community that breeds determination and excellence. DJ Turner’s journey from local star to NFL player is a testament to the county's unique spirit and the power of hard work and perseverance.
